Enchanted Rock State Natural Area

Not far from Lago Vista, in the town of Fredericksburg, lies Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. At this park, you can enjoy some amazing Hill country views by climbing the ancient dome. For thousands of years, this huge pink granite dome has drawn people to the Central Texas area. These rock formations, along with the scenery, are magical.

Many enjoy spending a late evening stargazing. There are also opportunities for rock climbing, camping, backpacking, picnicking, geocaching, birdwatching, and simply studying nature. This area boasts more than 10 miles of hiking trails, and has an interactive trail map that offers a virtual tour of the area. If you go to this area to rock climb, it is imperative to first check in with the park headquarters. They are, you can read the climbing rules and pick up your route maps. There are many great spots to set up camp at enchanted rock state natural area. The most popular places are those that allow a great view of the sky for stargazing.

If you plan to visit Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, you may want to leave your pets at home. There are only a few places where pets are allowed, such as the loop trail, the campgrounds, and some of the designated picnic areas. If you decide to take your pet, they must stay on the leash under 6 feet long always and never be left unattended.

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area also has a park store that offers many gift items. The store, Sweet Marleys, is open on weekends and occasional weekdays, and offers drinks, food, frozen treats, and other items. You can also purchase the wood needed for a campfire here.

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is a short drive from Lago Vista, and is a wonderful place to enjoy for a day or overnight trip.
